Euroblog Roundup

An great roundup of Euroblogs has already been done by DJ Nozem. I just want to mention three more blogs. After the rejection of the treaty by the Irish a friend of mine decided also to create a Eurocentric blog '63 Europium'.

Then there is a new Eurocentric German Blog 'European Union Law Blog', who also has an interesting comment about the referendum. He points out hat it should have been clear to the Irish voters that a 'no' vote on the treaty might mean that the rest of the Union would preceed without them. Several European politicians mentioned that already before the referendum. While many might have seen that as a 'threat' or 'interference' he thinks it was more of a clarification of the options Irish voters had.

Jochen Bittner (Planet in Progress) claims that the rejection of the Lisbon Treaty will not effect the EU much, because the Nice Treaty is working very well. The Lisbon Treaty would have brought some good but also some questionable changes, and therefore it is actually not that bad, we have now the option to rethink everything.

Update: Found in the Intertubes: "[Sinn Fein] firmly believes Ireland has a secure place within the EU and can now re-negotiate a better deal." As I said before, I absolutely respect the Irish choice to reject the treaty. But I think Sinn Fein position here is rather inappropriate. There was a clear rejection of the treaty, it is unlikely that some small amendments will change that. Ireland has now to find its own way forward.
